Mason Hayes Scholarships
The Mason Hayes Charitable Trust provides scholarships to students during their legal studies at the University of Sussex. Scholarships are aimed at undergraduates who are the first in their family to go to University and whose financial circumstances would otherwise preclude them from funding a University degree or for those whose personal circumstances make it difficult to access higher education.
Mason Hayes believes passionately that the benefits of higher education should be available to the best students regardless of their financial means or personal circumstances. Unfortunately, and because of the changing financial landscape that students now encounter when having to fund a University education, some of those talented prospective students from less traditional University backgrounds, now find the costs of studying prohibitive.
A Mason Hayes Scholarship is so much more than merely providing funding. Each scholarship student is personally mentored by Mason Hayes’ Managing Director, Marcus Hayes, to give an insight into pursuing a legal career or how, upon graduation, a legal degree can be utilised in a variety of career paths. This has previously involved scholarship students being introduced to Mason Hayes’ commercial contacts, having full access to Mason Hayes Trainee Solicitors for further mentoring and discussion and encouraging students through regular meetings to discuss their progress and aspirations at the University of Sussex. By additionally providing opportunities to scholarship students to participate in the Mason Hayes Charitable Trust Work Placement Programme, this has contributed to each scholarship student obtaining not just a legal education but gaining the necessary social and career skills to capitalise on the education and qualifications acquired whilst at the University of Sussex.
